Two families booked for dowry harassment

Thane, Jul 9 (PTI) Two families were booked on charges of dowry harassment here, police said today.

In the first case, 27-year-old Tarannum Abdul Parkar alleged that the family members of her husband Abdul Sattar Parkar harassed her demanding a sum of Rs 10 lakh and also took away her golden ornaments weighing 13 tolas, they said.The police have booked her husband Abdul, in-laws and sisters-in-law who lived in Ratnagiri under sections 498-A, and 406 read with section 34.

In another case, based on a complaint of 28-year-old Rutuja Girish Rane, police booked her husband Girish and his parents and sisters for allegedly harassing her for money.The victim alleged that her in-laws forced her to undergo abortion after she failed to meet their demands, police said, adding that her jewellery worth Rs 4.60 lakh was forcibly taken away by her in-laws.

The police have not made any arrests so far in both the cases.
